About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D models of structural steel assemblies using Tekla Structures, including connections, plates, bolts and welds.
• Generate complete fabrication drawings from 3D models, including plans, elevations, sections and connection details.
• Produce general arrangement (GA) drawings for structural steel erection.
• Generate and verify material take-off lists and bill of materials from the Tekla model.
• Check all drawings against engineering specifications before issue.
• Coordinate detailing with project engineers, architects and project managers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Liaise with the workshop and fabrication team to resolve practical detailing and manufacturing queries.
• Manage drawing revisions and maintain up-to-date drawing registers throughout each project.
• Attend project and coordination meetings as required.
• Visit fabrication facilities and project sites when required to verify dimensions and resolve detailing queries.
• Assist with project scheduling by meeting drawing issue deadlines for workshop and erection programmes.
• Carry out additional detailing and project-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in Tekla Structures — formal training or equivalent experience.
• Relevant qualification in structural drafting, civil/structural engineering technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes.
• Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong understanding of standard steel connections — bolted, welded, base plates, end plates and cleats.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadline pressure.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Computer literate and comfortable working with technical software and digital project systems.
• Fluent in English; Afrikaans will be advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transport.
• Right to work in South Africa.

Advantageous

• Experience with CNC/DSTV exports from Tekla for workshop use.
• Familiarity with structural steel fabrication standards.
